Connect ComplianceSME to Claude
What the connector does, how to set it up, and what it will not do
1. What the ComplianceSME connector is
The ComplianceSME connector joins your ComplianceSME account to Claude. Once it is connected, you work your compliance systems by asking for them in plain English inside a conversation. The section files still arrive one at a time, in order, and each one is still run as an interview. The difference is that you no longer download a file for each section and load it yourself.
ComplianceSME publishes a register of 115 agent toolkits featuring 3,262 compliance agents covering 9,904 catalogued obligations, for the European Union and the United Kingdom. Every date in that register is checked against the official legal text before it goes on the site, and the date of that check is recorded. The connector serves the register and the systems on your own account, and nothing else.
The connector is built and operated by ComplianceSME. It is the same content, the same ownership check and the same progress record that the website dashboard uses.
2. What you can do with it
These are the jobs the connector was built for.
- Find out which compliance obligations apply to your business, from its size, turnover, country and activities. This costs nothing and needs no purchase.
- See which compliance systems are on your account, how many sections you have completed, which section you are in, and which one comes next.
- Work through a section as a guided interview and come out with the compliance document that section produces.
- Check which EU and UK compliance dates fall in the months ahead, and which of them catch a business like yours.
- Browse the register by topic, law, sector or category, with prices, before deciding what to buy.
- Read ComplianceSME news articles in full inside the conversation.
Three tools write to your account record: fetching a section records the serve, marking a section complete updates your progress after you confirm, and the assessment saves its result. Nothing else is written.
3. Before you connect
You need a ComplianceSME account. If the email address you give has never been used here, approving the connection creates the account at that moment. Nothing is charged and nothing is bought by connecting.
The applicability assessment, the register, the compliance dates and the news archive need no purchase. A business that has bought nothing can connect and use them all.
Fetching section content is different. A section is served only for a system that is on your account. If you ask for a system you have not bought, the connector says so and gives you the register address on compliancesme.com where you can read what it covers and buy it. Purchases are made on the website. The connector cannot take payment and never handles payment details.
Free systems, including the GDPR system and the company law libraries, are delivered from your account page on the website rather than served as sections through the connector. The connector lists them on your account and says where they are collected.
4. Connect in Claude
Open Claude and sign in. Open Settings, then Connectors, then find ComplianceSME and select Connect. The path is the same in the browser and in the Claude desktop application. On a phone, Settings is reached from the account menu first, and Connectors sits inside it.
From there the steps are the same everywhere.
- A ComplianceSME page opens and asks for your email address. Give the address your systems are bought under.
- Select the button to send the link. Check your inbox.
- Open the link in the email. It is valid for thirty minutes.
- Read the page that opens. It names the account, lists what the connection will be able to do, and offers two choices.
- Select Connect. You are returned to Claude and ComplianceSME appears in your list of connectors.
Approve the link only if you started the connection yourself in the last half hour. If a link arrives without you asking for one, close the page. Nothing is connected until the page is approved.
To begin work, start a new conversation and ask ComplianceSME what it can do. The connector opens with a short menu of six choices and routes your answer to the right tool.
5. How sign-in works, and how to disconnect
ComplianceSME has no passwords. Signing in to the website is done with an emailed link, and connecting works the same way. You enter your email address on a ComplianceSME page, we send you a link, and opening that link is the proof that the address is yours. No password is typed anywhere, so there is no password for Claude to see, store or pass on.
Approving the consent page grants the connection once. It stays in place until you end it. The consent page is the only place the grant is made, and it states what the connection covers before you decide: listing the systems on your account and your progress, fetching your sections one at a time in order, updating your progress with your confirmation each time, checking upcoming EU and UK compliance dates for your business, running the free applicability assessment and browsing the register.
To disconnect, open Settings, then Connectors, then ComplianceSME, and remove or disconnect it. That withdraws the grant. The next tool call fails, so access stops at once. Nothing on your account is deleted. Your systems, your progress and your documents stay exactly as they were, and the website dashboard carries on as before.
The two are kept separate on purpose. Signing out of the website does not disconnect the connector, and disconnecting the connector does not sign you out of the website.
6. Available tools
The connector provides nine tools and no others. Six of them read only. The three that write are named as such below, and each one states what it changes.
start_here (read-only)
Returns the ComplianceSME opening menu and the six choices it offers. It reads nothing from your account and changes nothing. Use it at the start of a conversation, or whenever you want the menu again.
list_my_toolkits (read-only)
Lists the compliance systems on your account with their progress: sections complete, the section in progress, and what comes next. It returns the outline of each system and the description of each section. It never returns a section body.
get_section (writes)
Fetches one section of a system you own, and exactly one section per call. Sections unlock in order, and section 1 builds the Entity Passport that the rest of the system needs, so it is served first. Each serve is recorded against your account and moves your current-section marker. Each served section carries your licence reference.
mark_section_complete (writes)
Marks one section of a system you own as complete. It updates the same progress record the website dashboard shows. The tool requires a confirmation flag, so you are asked to agree before it runs.
check_deadlines (read-only)
Reads the ComplianceSME dates register and returns the EU and UK compliance dates ahead, matched against the systems you own and the business facts held on your account. The default horizon is 180 days and it can be set as far ahead as 1,095 days. Every date and every wording comes from the register.
take_assessment (writes)
Works out which of the 115 agent toolkits apply to a business, from headcount, turnover band, country, sector, activities and legal structure. It is open to anyone with a connection, whether or not they have bought anything. The result is saved to your account so that later deadline checks can be matched to your business.
view_catalogue (read-only)
Browses the register of 115 agent toolkits with plain descriptions, prices and their addresses on compliancesme.com. It filters by a topic, a law or a sector, and by category: A for cybersecurity and data protection, B for AI, digital commerce and consumer protection, C for corporate governance, employment and financial, D for environmental, health and safety.
list_news_articles (read-only)
Lists the ComplianceSME news archive, newest first: title, date, strand and a one line summary for each article. These are the articles published on the compliancesme.com news pages.
get_news_article (read-only)
Serves one news article in full as plain text, to be read in the conversation. The body is the article text with no page furniture. Articles the website holds behind an account carry your licence footer.
7. Example prompts
One for each tool, written the way an owner would ask.
- start_here. "I have just connected ComplianceSME. What can it do for me?"
- list_my_toolkits. "Which compliance systems are on my account, and where did I get to on each one?"
- get_section. "Open section P02 of B-001 and take me through it."
- mark_section_complete. "I have saved the document from that section. Mark it complete."
- check_deadlines. "What compliance dates land on a business like mine in the next six months?"
- take_assessment. "We are a limited company in Ireland, eleven staff, turnover under two million pounds. We sell online, we hold customer data and we import electronics from China. What applies to us?"
- view_catalogue. "Show me everything in the register that covers product safety, with prices."
- list_news_articles. "What has ComplianceSME published on the news pages recently?"
- get_news_article. "Read me the delay trap article in full."
Section work runs as a conversation. Answer one question at a time and let the section run to its end. The document it produces is built from those answers.
8. What this connector is for, and what it is not
ComplianceSME provides compliance documentation tools. It does not provide legal advice, and nothing served through this connector is legal advice. Where a matter is complex, contested or turns on facts a lawyer would want to test, take it to a qualified professional.
The following limits are built into the connector and hold on every call.
- One section is served per request. There is no way to draw a whole system down in one go.
- Sections are served in order, and section 1 of a system is served before the rest of it.
- Ownership is checked on every call.
- Each served section is licensed to your account and carries your licence reference. It is for your own company's internal use, and it may not be resold, shared, redistributed or published.
- Twenty sections may be served to an account in a rolling day. That budget is shared with the website dashboard, so serves through either route count against the same twenty.
- The connector cannot buy anything, cannot take a payment and never asks for payment details.
- The compliance dates it reports are the ones held in the ComplianceSME dates register. It does not add dates from anywhere else.
The connector reaches your ComplianceSME account and the ComplianceSME register. It reaches no other system of yours, and it changes nothing outside the progress record described in section 6.
9. Privacy and data handling
A tool call sends ComplianceSME the name of the tool and the values it needs: a system code and a section id for a section, or the size, turnover band, country, sector and activities you give for an assessment. What comes back is the section text, the register entries, the dates or the article text, and that content enters your conversation. The server does not log conversation content; the only thing recorded from a tool call is the serve event itself, written to your account record so that the section order, the progress and the daily budget stay correct. Assessment answers are saved to your account so that later deadline checks match your business. The full notice, including who the controller is, the legal bases, retention and your rights, is on the privacy page.
10. Troubleshooting and common questions
ComplianceSME does not appear in the connector list. Check that you are looking in Settings, then Connectors. If it is still missing, write to us at the address below and say which application and which platform you are using.
The email with the link has not arrived. Check the spam folder, then check that the address you typed is the one your systems are bought under. Links are valid for thirty minutes, so if one has gone stale, start the connection again and a fresh link is sent.
The reply says the system is not on my account. That system has not been bought on this account. The reply carries the register address on compliancesme.com where you can read what it covers and buy it. If you believe you did buy it, check that you connected with the same email address the purchase was made under.
The reply says section 1 must be run first. Section 1 of every system builds the Entity Passport that the later sections read from. Run section 1, then the section you wanted becomes available.
The reply says the daily section limit is reached. Twenty sections per account per rolling day is the limit, shared with the website dashboard. It clears as the day rolls forward. Work resumes the next day with your progress intact.
Which subscription do I need? Systems are bought one at a time on the website and each purchase is a one-off. Membership covers updates for every system you own. Neither is needed to run the free assessment, browse the register, check dates or read the news archive.
An answer looks wrong. Stop and tell us. Send the question you asked and the answer you were given to the address below. Every report is checked against the register and the official legal text behind it, and you are told what the check found.
How do I disconnect? Open Settings, then Connectors, then ComplianceSME, and remove or disconnect it. Access stops on the next call and nothing on your account is deleted.
11. Support
Write to toolkit@compliancesme.com for anything to do with the connector: setting it up, a reply that looks wrong, a question about what a tool does, or a problem with your account. Messages are read by a person and answered within one working day.
Questions about a date, a source or a page on this site can also be raised through the contact page. A fault with a system you own can be reported on the report a problem page.
