We use ChatGPT at work. Does the EU AI Act apply to us?
Yes, in almost every case. Using ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or a similar tool at work makes your business a deployer, and the Article 4 AI literacy duty has applied since 2 February 2025.
What is the AI literacy requirement in Article 4?
A live duty on every provider and deployer, whatever the size of the business: take measures supporting the AI literacy of staff and of other persons operating AI systems on your behalf.
What are the EU AI Act deadlines now?
The Digital Omnibus moved the high-risk dates to 2 December 2027 and 2 August 2028, and moved two prohibitions forward to 2 December 2026. The general date of application remains 2 August 2026.
What are the EU AI Act penalties?
Up to EUR 35,000,000 or 7 per cent of worldwide turnover for prohibited practices, with lower tiers below, and a cap for SMEs at the lower of the two figures in each tier.
