The instrument has no size threshold. ISO 9001 explicitly states that it applies to all sizes of organisation, and the 2015 edition removed the mandatory quality manual and management representative role, which reduced the documentary burden for smaller organisations.

When does ISO 9001 apply from, and what are the deadlines?

ISO 9001 does not impose statutory reporting deadlines, because as a voluntary standard it carries no legislated due dates. The certification cycle runs for three years, with a two-stage initial audit, surveillance audits at least annually, and a recertification audit before the certificate expires. Internal audits (Clause 9.2) and management review (Clause 9.3) occur at planned intervals.

What does ISO 9001 require me to do?
